Kollel Shomrei HaChomos is a tezedakah network founded over 150 years ago by the Chasam Sofer, Rabbi Moshe Sofer, who undertook to renew the tradition of supporting the Yidden of Eretz Yisrael, as exhorted by the holy Tanna Reb Meir Baaal Haness nearly two millennia previous. Yidden have supported their brethren with love through this venerable charity for generations.

The Kollel Shomrei Hachomos budget currently stands at nearly

$13,000,000 per year.

These funds are used for:

Talmud Torah Shomrei Hachomos: A yeshiva of 400 students, 20% of whom attend free of charge; average tuition is $45/month. A yearly test is administered on 5,000 blatt Gemara and 10,000 Mishnayos.
Yeshiva Letzeirim, with 100 bachurim, and 17 kollelim with close to 600 extraordinary avreichim
Otzar Hasefarim: A free sefarim library, one of the largest otzrim in the world, available to all

Monthly stipends for nearly 200 outstanding scholars
Keren Kayemes/Chevrah Mishnayos: Four chaburos of 60 talmidei chachamim who uphold the memory of those Yidden who have purchased a place in the Keren Kayemes scrolls with mishnayos, lecht and kaddish on the neshamah’s yahrzeit. Names on the Keren Kayemes list remain so until techiyas hameisim; some of the names still memorialized today passed from this world over a few hundred years ago.

Yom Tov stipends, are deposited directly into recipients’ bank accounts, so as to eliminate embarrassment, twice a year, before Pesach and the Yamim Noraim, for over 7,000 families, or nearly 50,000 people.
Nearly 900 low-rent apartments, throughout six neighborhoods, provide large families with affordable living spaces.
Keren Almanos Widow Fund provides monthly support, deposited directly into bank accounts to eliminate shame, to nearly 700 widows as well as orphans from over 300 families.
Homes for the Elderly offer nursing and rehab care for the elderly and infirm.

Ezer Nisuin Wedding Fund assists over 2,000 needy brides and grooms with basic necessities and financial aid for their weddings.
Kupat Gemach Free Loan Fund, with easy payment terms. A loan board reviews applications before granting about 1,200 loans a year; over 7 million dollars’ worth of loans are currently in circulation.
Ezer Leyoldos Kimpeturin Fund provides support for over 200 poor women post-childbirth.
Ezer Lecholim Medical Fund provides financial assistance for medical bills of the ill and needy.

Nine shuls are maintained in the seven communities throughout Eretz Yisrael where Kollel Shomrei Hachomos low-rent housing is situated.

3 mikvaos are similarly serviced under the auspices of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos.
